From ‚Angry About Mum‘ to ‚About Mum,‘ and now ‚Breaking Out,‘ this artwork portrays my profound journey towards independence from my mother. The anger I felt was deep and consuming, born from childhood experiences where her uncontrolled beatings overshadowed any semblance of love. Each brushstroke carries the weight of this emotional turmoil, evolving from raw hatred into a journey of personal liberation.
Through this artistic process, I learned that forgiveness requires a profound empathy for the experiences of others. It taught me not to allow myself to be overwhelmed, much like a mother’s journey in pushing limits to become a ‚good enough‘ parent. My approach to running, stopping at 70%, and walking home became a metaphor for accepting imperfection.
Each stroke captures complex emotions and the turbulent path of self-discovery. This piece transcends its visual representation, serving as an emotional odyssey to reclaim suppressed feelings. It stands as a testament to resilience, forgiveness, and self-compassion, reminding us that healing is an ongoing process.
Creating ‚Breaking Out‘ was cathartic, transforming pain into beauty and meaning. I hope it resonates with others navigating similar paths, offering solace and inspiration in their own journeys of healing. Art has the power to transform, heal, and reconnect us with our true selves.
