Faced with a lifelong challenge of stuttering and verbal expression, Philipp Mettler is a human who uses artistry as a tool to express decades-worth of suppressed human experience. As you contemplate Mettler's work, you will be struck by the strength and beauty of the colors he uses, which reflect the power of his emotional journey. His art brings to life a sense of discovery, adventure and revival as you get lost in the maze of his thoughts, memories and emotions.
Most importantly, Philipp's art is not just a personal expression but a reflection of the human experience. The themes he touches upon are universal, and his paintings speak to people from all walks of life. They evoke a sense of empathy and a recognition of the emotions that we all face at some point in our lives; from the cleansing experience of a forest hike, to the inspiring nature of Japanese aesthetics, passing by the pumping sensations of a night out in, say...Genève, or any of the other cities you've had your fun in.
Philipp's creations act as friends, with each reminding us that life is not out to get you, that it is in fact a tree of experiences that have been and are soon-to-be realized. That it is a gift continuously inviting you to see what's inside.

SEARCHING FOR MY VOICE THROUGH COLORS
Being of abstract nature, Mettler's paintings create an immersive experience for the viewer, allowing you to connect with Philipp's experience of life and to connect it with your own world.Naturally, each artwork is a reference to Philipp's own experiences. However, they relate to yours too - you might have enjoyed playing Mikado as a child, you might have discovered melting sensations through the thump of a Techno beat one night. You might be fond of Hokusai and Kyoto's lush greenery. You might have fallen in love, Intertwined with another. The magic behind Mettler's works are that they speak to each one of us; through a familiar color palette and strong sensations, they remind us of the fond memories we might have created throughout our own lives and put them back at the forefront of our consciousness. Picture your childhood, adulthood, your own children. Picture your garden, a landscape, the view of Monte Carlo from up-top...Mettler's "Searching for my voice through colors" is a testament to the power of self-expression, and a reminder of the beauty that can be found in our own experience as emotional humans.Philipp Mettler, Techno, 2021 -

Free, Unfulfilling Sexuality
"Is freedom a fantasy, just as much as a fulfilling sexuality is unreachable?"In contrary to "Searching for my voice through colors", this collection of digital prints does not examine our experience of human life through memories, rather through our relationship with our own sexuality - a consequential topic in the eyes of Mettler."Free, Unfulfilling Sexuality" consists of digital prints on Hahnemuehle fine art paper and uses the clitoris and the testicles as characters in a unique universe. Through the variation of visible objects, environments and colors, diverse questions and versions of this universe are revealed. This collection affirms that there is a paradox between reaching for one’s sexual desires and achieving life satisfaction. Every piece invites you to question how you place yourself on this tradeoff.Philipp Mettler, Non binary I, 2022
